  1. Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
  2. As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
  3. And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
  4. So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.
  5. And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister.
  1. In the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul.
  2. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."
  3. So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.
  4. The two of them, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus.
  5. When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. John was with them as their helper.

  1. And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a FALSE prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus:
  2. Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.
  3. But Elymas the sorcerer(for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.
  4. Then Saul,(who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him,
  5. And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
  1. They traveled through the whole island until they came to Paphos. There they met a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet named Bar-Jesus,
  2. who was an attendant of the proconsul, Sergius Paulus. The proconsul, an intelligent man, sent for Barnabas and Saul because he wanted to hear the word of God.
  3. But Elymas the sorcerer (for that is what his name means) opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul from the faith.
  4. Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked straight at Elymas and said,
  5. "You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord?

  1. And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.
  2. Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.
  3. Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.
  4. But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.
  5. And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.
  1. Now the hand of the Lord is against you. You are going to be blind, and for a time you will be unable to see the light of the sun." Immediately mist and darkness came over him, and he groped about, seeking someone to lead him by the hand.
  2. When the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, for he was amazed at the teaching about the Lord.
  3. From Paphos, Paul and his companions sailed to Perga in Pamphylia, where John left them to return to Jerusalem.
  4. From Perga they went on to Pisidian Antioch. On the Sabbath they entered the synagogue and sat down.
  5. After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue rulers sent word to them, saying, "Brothers, if you have a message of encouragement for the people, please speak."

  1. Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.
  2. The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.
  3. And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.
  4. And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot.
  5. And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.
  1. Standing up, Paul motioned with his hand and said: "Men of Israel and you Gentiles who worship God, listen to me!
  2. The God of the people of Israel chose our fathers; he made the people prosper during their stay in Egypt, with mighty power he led them out of that country,
  3. he endured their conduct for about forty years in the desert,
  4. he overthrew seven nations in Canaan and gave their land to his people as their inheritance.
  5. All this took about 450 years. "After this, God gave them judges until the time of Samuel the prophet.

  1. And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.
  2. And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.
  3. Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:
  4. When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
  5. And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.
  1. Then the people asked for a king, and he gave them Saul son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled forty years.
  2. After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: 'I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.'
  3. "From this man's descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised.
  4. Before the coming of Jesus, John preached repentance and baptism to all the people of Israel.
  5. As John was completing his work, he said: 'Who do you think I am? I am not that one. No, but he is coming after me, whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.'

  1. For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:
  2. But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.
  3. Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:
  4. And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
  5. Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;
  1. "For when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his fathers and his body decayed.
  2. But the one whom God raised from the dead did not see decay.
  3. "Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.
  4. Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses.
  5. Take care that what the prophets have said does not happen to you:

  1. Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.
  2. And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
  3. Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
  4. And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.
  5. But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.
  1. "'Look, you scoffers, wonder and perish, for I am going to do something in your days that you would never believe, even if someone told you.'"
  2. As Paul and Barnabas were leaving the synagogue, the people invited them to speak further about these things on the next Sabbath.
  3. When the congregation was dismissed, many of the Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who talked with them and urged them to continue in the grace of God.
  4. On the next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord.
  5. When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and talked abusively against what Paul was saying.

  1. Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
  2. For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.
  3. And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.
  4. And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.
  5. But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.
  1. Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: "We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles.
  2. For this is what the Lord has commanded us: "'I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.'"
  3. When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.
  4. The word of the Lord spread through the whole region.
  5. But the Jews incited the God-fearing women of high standing and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region.
